Bhubaneswar Seeks Citizen Participation For Smart City Project

Bhubaneswar Municipality Corporation has sought participation from the city’s citizens in helping design the city as a smart city. The corporation has invited proposals, ideas and design plans from the citizens to make some parts of the city as part of its smart city project and thrown open a public competition.

The elements that are offered as part of the competition are streets, parks and junctions. In the initial phase, in the streets section, Vanivihar to Ram Mandir square, popularly know as Janpath, is offered as a part of this competition. Similarly, the Robot Park and Differently Abled Park in Saheed Nagar, and Rajmahal Square and Rupali Square are offered as other parts of the smart city project and open for competition.

The smart city competition is open from 25 June to 15 July 2016, and carries three prizes for the top three best designs. The first prize winner would get Rs 1,00,000, the second prize winner Rs 30,000 and the third prize winner would get Rs 20,000.

Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha, was selected as part of of the first 20 Smart City project announced by the Indian Government in 2015, and the temple city ranked first among other cities in terms of planning and design of the city.

The corporation of Bhubaneswar has also created an SPV (special project vehicle) under Smart City project called Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited which manages the affairs of the Smart City Bhubaneswar. In the development process and planning , Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited(BSCL) has taken citizens of the city as partner in the progress. The process of co-creation through cooperative-competition seen during the preparation of the Smart City Proposals (SCP) is to be continued during implementation.
