Birlasoft’s IoT App For Water Treatment Gets SAP HANA Certification

birlasoft_sap_hana_romoBirlasoft’s internet of things application Reverse Osmosis Monitoring & Optimization (ROMO) built for water treatment plants has received the  SAP HANA certification by SAP. Birlasoft developed this IoT application on SAP HANA Cloud Platform in collaboration with the company’s Co-Innovation Lab in Bangalore.

The application, ROMO, is a ready-to-deploy kit for wastewater treatment and thermal power generation units. Besides, the framework can easily be adapted to other asset-intensive industries for diverse asset categories, including heat exchangers and boilers, the company said in a statement.

The ROMO solution can capture machine-generated data from sensors in reverse osmosis (RO) plants, provide real-time, smart analytics to the plant operations manager, in the form of improved, proactive insights on the performance of RO membranes in the water treatment plant.  It can also predict and prevent RO membrane failure by monitoring membrane fouling and deterioration.

The IoT App,Birlasoft claims, can improve the RO plant efficiency by up to 20%, reducing operation cost up to 25%, and saving up to 50% of membrane replacement cost.

“We are delighted to announce that Birlasoft’s Digital Transformation offerings now include solutions built on SAP HANA Cloud Platform. Our IoT application, ROMO 1.0, which provides a real-time, predictive, condition-based asset maintenance framework, has been certified by SAP,” said Anjan Lahiri, CEO, Birlasoft.

“Birlasoft engineers worked on our SAP HANA Cloud Platform to help provide a comprehensive set of tools and libraries to design and deploy applications that can apply advanced analytical processing across large volumes and varieties of data from different sources, including remote device sensors, to enable IoT scenarios,” said Rudolf Held, global head of SAP Co-Innovation Lab, SAP SE.

Birlasoft collaborated with SAP Global Co-Innovation Lab Network to co-develop the ROMO application. SAP Global Co-Innovation Lab Network is a part of SAP’s global R&D network and offers a hands-on environment for SAP, partners and customers to work together on current and future technologies.
