Tizen Based Samsung Z2 Launched In India


South Korean phone maker Samsung Tuesday launched a smartphone based on its Tizen OS in India. The Samsung Z2, priced at Rs 4,590 is the third Tizen based smartphone to be launched in the country.

Tizen is Samsung’s proprietary OS developed for devices connected to internet of things. The OS is being used by Samsung for its smart TVs, smart watches and other wearables. According to the South Korean major the OS will be used for all connected devices that the company is planning for future, be it automobiles, wearables, home appliances and others. Some of Samsung’s smart TVs and refrigerators run on Tizen OS.

The Samsung Z2 was designed in the company’s R&D unit in Bangalore. According to Dipesh Shah, Samsung’s R&D head for Tizen, the OS will be 100% IoT ready in next 5 years.

The Z2 will be available from August 29 and it can be bought from online as well as offline or physical stores. The company has partnered with PayTm for its online distribution.

The Samsung Z2 comes with 4 inch screen and is powered by 1.5 GHz quad core processor. It features 1 GB RAM clubbed with 8 GB of internal storage capacity. However, the internal storage capacity can be enhanced up to 128 GB by using SD cards. The phone is backed up with an 1500 mAh battery. The phone comes with 5 megapixel rear camera whereas it is supported by a VGA camera at the front panel. The Samsung Z2 comes in three different colours – black, gold and wine red.

Samsung has partnered with Reliance Jio for the Z2 and the phone will come per-loaded with  Jio apps. Reliance Jio is also offering 90 GB of free 4G data for the Z2 consumers.
