The telecom authority has released a consultation paper on M2M Communications.
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released a consultation paper on M2M. This paper is TRAI’s response to query raised by Department of Telecommunications (DoT), which on 5th January, 2016 sought recommendations from TRAI on three aspects related to M2M Communications: M2M Spectrum Requirements, M2M Roaming Requirements and Quality of Service in M2M Services.
Titled Spectrum, Roaming and QoS related requirements in Machine-to-Machine (M2M) Communications, the paper touches upon various M2M issues such as regulatory aspects including policy and licensing framework for M2M service providers, various network codes, data protection, and privacy issues that need to be deliberated.
For discussing these issues, TRAI has also invited stakeholders to collaborate and share their comments and inputs. The written comments on the issues raised in the Consultation Paper are invited from the stakeholders by 15th November, 2016 and counter comments by 29thOctober, 2016.
One must note that the Government of India had released its M2M Communications roadmap last year. While announcing GoI’s M2M Communications roadmap, the then telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had said that M2M has great potential to transform India and will be a key enabler for the government vision of Digital India, Make in India and proposed smart cities in India.
