Chinese technology startup Xiaomi Wednesday launched its first smart home product in the Indian market. Though the company has plethora of smart home products in China, the first product it launched in India is an air purifier.
The air purifier is WiFi enabled and can be controlled from anywhere through a mobile app – Mi Home. The app is platform independent and can be downloaded from Google Play and Apple store as it is compatible with Android as well as iOS. The device has a Wi-Fi module 802.11b/g/n (2.4Ghz band), and can be synced with any smartphone or tablet.
The Mi Air Purifier 2 has a Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) performance of 330 m3 per hour, the company claims, which is higher than that of rivals in the market. To bring its to perspective, the purifier can clean a 400 sq. feet room in 11 minutes. A smaller bedroom of 300 to 350 sq. feet can be cleaned within 7 minutes.
Xiaomi also claims that the Mi Air Purifier 2 can remove 99.7 per cent of small particles PM 2.5 (per hour). PM 2.5 is one of the most dangerous air pollutants responsible for many respiratory ailments.
The Mi Air Purifier 2 has a HEPA filter, activated carbon filter as well. This filter needs to be changed every six months in order to give best results, the company suggests. Dimensions for the device are 240 x 240 x 520 mm and it has a noise level of 31dB.
Called Air Purifier 2 as it has an earlier version and this product is an upgraded and improved version of the first product. Xiaomi has made it sleeker and smaller compared to the earlier one so that it does not look bulky in the home and does not go against the aesthetics of the home decor.
The Air Purifier 2 weighs 4.2 KG compared to 8 Kg for the older one. The Air Purifier 2 is priced at Rs 9,999 and will be initially available at Mi.com from 26 September. The company will make this available on Flipkart from 2 October. The filter that needs to be changed every six months is priced at Rs 2499 and will be available on Xiaomi’s local website.
